How did I go from practicing law to becoming a Salesforce expert?

Through a series of bizarre and unexpected career turns, I found myself working at NBC Universal, where I managed large scale IT projects, based out of Rockefeller Center in NYC.

After several years at NBC Universal, I moved over to GE Capital, where I inherited some responsibility for the company’s CRM (Siebel).

While at GE Capital, a Salesforce project landed on my lap, and I before I knew it, I became known as the “Salesforce Guru” at GE Capital.

I’ve decided to take my knowledge and expertise on the Salesforce platform and help others people solve their business problems and become Salesforce Rockstars.

Within the last few years, I have become a recognized expert in the global Salesforce community, through my blog, webinars, podcast, ebooks, and my role as a Salesforce User Group Leader for the NYC and Northern NJ Salesforce User Groups.

In 2016, I became a Salesforce MVP. MVPs are nominated by the Salesforce community and selected by Salesforce employees based on their expertise, generosity, leadership, and advocacy.

I can often be found at most Salesforce events in the NYC area (and certainly at Dreamforce), either speaking publicly (sharing best practices, cool new features), or helping to staff the Salesforce event in other capacities.

When will the live classes be offered?
We will be conducting classes M-Th throughout the course of the day. As soon as you enroll, you will get an email hitting your inbox, asking you to select your preferred day of the week and time slot. That same survey will also ask if you need training on Salesforce Classic or Lightning Experience...and if you’re in a non-profit or a for-profit class. We will place everyone in the appropriate classes (or...sections...if we want to borrow terminology from college)...based on your responses. You’ll be assigned a specific time slot on the calendar for your recurring class, and you’ll get a meeting invite so that it’s reserved on your calendar along with the corresponding GTM details for that class. Once you are assigned a particular time slot that corresponds with the preferences you’ve shared with us, let’s say….Mondays at 12pm Eastern….that’s your time slot for the entire 8 weeks. If you can’t join us live during a particular week...and hey...it happens...no worries...you can always catch the recording for that week’s class. The recordings will be available within 24 of the live session.
Am I supposed to be logged into Salesforce during the live class?
Ideally, yes. Ideally you’re watching my screen and following along with what I’m doing while also having your own browser window open...logged into Salesforce. This way, as I’m clicking around simulating logging calls or creating tasks or creating reports - you’re doing the exact same thing on your side. The goal is for you to feel like I’m sort of looking over your shoulder showing you what to do and where to click.
Our company’s Salesforce is highly customized. How can you train us without knowing how my company customized Salesforce?
That’s a great point. This course is purposely structured so that I’ll be teaching you the core, foundational, essential elements of how to use Salesforce when working with leads, contacts, accounts, opportunities, campaigns, cases, reports and dashboards. It’s entirely possible that some features that I’ll be showing on my screens are either hidden from you...or perhaps you have additional features on your screens. If I’m showing features that you are not able to see or access….you should still have the knowledge and skill set to know about these features and know how to use them. It’s entirely possible that they are hidden from you...for reasons that no one knows or understands...or perhaps it was a complete oversight. By you knowing about these features and learning how to use them - you’ll be able to turn to your Salesforce Admin and ask as to why these features are not available to you. There might be some valid reasons why they are not available...but you could potentially be the catalyst to opening up these features for your organization...and...in turn...you become the company’s superhero as everyone will start asking you how on earth you even knew that those features were available in the first place. Also - let me also point out that as part of the training course, I will be sharing with you information on how you can create your own FREE version of Salesforce for training purposes….and don’t be scared or intimidated...that this is referred to as a “Developer Edition.” I will show you how you can get this….for free...and keep it for life. This means that you can do all of these training exercises...following along with everything I’m teaching you in a brand new, clean Salesforce environment...where all of the features are open and available to you! Many people prefer to do their training and...playing around...in their own private version of Salesforce...so they don’t risk messing up real, live data of your actual customers or prospects.
During the class - will we be looking at your face, or your Salesforce screens...or both?
You will primarily be looking at my Salesforce screens….while I certainly have no issues turning on the camera so that you guys can see me...I think it’s far more important that you see where I’m clicking on the screen while I’m explaining what I’m doing - so that you can follow along and do the same thing...just like I am.
